Additional learning support
At Nyngan Public School, we want every student to feel included, confident, and ready to learn. We provide support for students with disability and additional learning needs so they can participate in all areas of school life. A formal diagnosis is not required. Support can begin at any stage of schooling.
Support that fits your child's needs
Some students need extra help to do their best at school. We work closely with families to plan adjustments and supports that reflect each child’s strengths and needs.
Additional learning support can include:
- teachers and support staff working with families
- specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- programs to extend high potential and gifted students
-
small group tutoring in literacy and numeracy
-
regular reviews to monitor progress and update support plans
-
changes to the classrooms:
- accessible learning spaces
- assistive technology
- adjusted resources and content
-
extra guidance to support understanding
-
assessment adjustments:
- extra time
- simplified language
- breaks during tasks
- different ways to demonstrate student learning (e.g. oral presentations instead of written tasks).
We identify students who may need support by monitoring learning progress, reviewing assessment data, and listening to concerns raised by parents and carers. Adjustments are planned in consultation with families and reviewed regularly. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
